Dorsal foot tendons anatomy. It is made up of over 100 moving parts bones muscles tendons and ligaments designed to allow the foot to balance the bodys weight on just two legs and support. The muscles acting on the foot can be classified into extrinsic muscles those originating on the anterior or posterior aspect of the lower leg and intrinsic muscles originating on the dorsal top or plantar base aspects of the foot. One of the easiest sets of muscle tendons to identify on the dorsal foot are those of extensor digitorum longus.
